Update the digital certificate

To support secure communications, Deploy can generate a self-signed digital certificate. This can cause issues in situations where Deploy needs to be accessed using a URL other than https://localhost:4516, because the Common Name in the certificate is localhost.

To view the certificate, use the keytool utility that is included in the Java JDK distribution. Run the following command on the Deploy server:

keytool -list -keystore conf/keystore.p12 -v

Sample output:

* you must provide your keystore password. *

Note that the alias name is jetty. Deploy looks up the certificate using this key.

If you need to update the digital certificate:

  1. Move the current conf/keystore.p12 file to a different location.
  2. Use keytool in the XL_DEPLOY_SERVER_HOME directory:

keytool -genkey -keyalg RSA -alias jetty -keystore conf/keystore.p12 -validity 360 -keysize 2048 -deststoretype pkcs12
  3. Choose a keystore password.
  4. For the first and last name, enter the host name that you want to use to access Deploy. This is a sample of the output:

    Enter keystore password:
    Re-enter new password:
What is your first and last name?
What is the name of your organizational unit?
What is the name of your organization?
What is the name of your City or Locality?
What is the name of your State or Province?
What is the two-letter country code for this unit?
    Is CN=yourservername.yourdomain.com, OU=Unknown, O=Unknown, L=Unknown, ST=Unknown, C=Unknown correct?
    Enter key password for <jetty>
(RETURN if same as keystore password):
  5. Update the following settings in conf/deployit.conf:

Tip: If you require a more complex digital certificate, generate it with OpenSSL and import it using keytool with the alias jetty.

For more information about SSL and Jetty, see the Jetty documentation.

Important: As of 9.7.0 all weak ciphers are disabled by default. If you want to enable weak ciphers, contact our support team.
